2022 promises to be an exciting year for Rainbow Migration as we develop our public campaigning and seek to widen support for an asylum and immigration system that treats all LGBTQI+ people fairly and with dignity.
We want to do that hand-in-hand with LGBTQI+ people who have been through the UK asylum system, so we’re recruiting an advisory group to help plan, deliver and evaluate our campaigns.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a diverse team of people who are willing to volunteer their time and all meet the following basic criteria:
- Are LGBTQI+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and/or intersex)
- Have been through the UK asylum system and been granted leave to remain
- Are passionate about improving our asylum system to help LGBTQI+ people fleeing persecution
We especially encourage applications from groups likely to be under-represented (e.g. trans or intersex people) and from those who have experienced immigration detention. No previous experience of campaigning is needed – your life experience and passion are more important than knowledge and work history, and our staff will support you to develop any skills you need.
What will it involve?
You will work with us on a campaign aimed at reforming immigration detention, helping to shape the campaign plan, set up a monitoring framework and evaluate campaign activities. You’ll attend (remote) meetings with other group members and have the option to attend other campaign events and activities if you wish. Find out more in the Information Pack.
What support are we offering?
This is a voluntary position but we will cover any pre-agreed money spent on enabling you to take part (e.g. travel, mobile top-ups, childcare). We ask that you tell us what you hope to get out of joining the group so that we can support you to achieve that goal, as well as helping you to develop any knowledge or skills you will need for the role.
How to apply
You can download the application form or complete it online. If you need to apply in a different format (e.g. by sending us a video) or if it would prove difficult to complete the form, just let us know and we’ll try to arrange something that works for you. The deadline is Monday 31st January but we encourage early applications.
If you have any questions or would like to have an informal chat with our Campaigns Manager Emma before applying, please email us to arrange this.
