As 2024 comes to an end, we want to take a moment to celebrate the achievements of the last 12 months:

  • 58 service users were granted asylum from 28 countries including lesbian women from Kazakhstan and Cameroon, bisexual people from Kenya and Nigeria, trans people from Saudi Arabia and Thailand, and gay men from Russia and Colombia.
  • A trans service user who we advocated for single occupancy accommodation was finally moved to a single room.
  • Two trans women who we worked with closely and advocated on behalf of, were finally given bridging prescriptions for HRT (hormone replacement therapy) by their GPs, and both got legal representation in the same week!
  • A trans woman we supported who had no legal representative was detained after her asylum claim was withdrawn because the Home Office said she missed her main interview. We provided advice on next steps, and she was released from detention and her asylum claim was reinstated.
  • 100% of service users completing an evaluation form strongly agreed or agreed that they have a better understanding of the asylum process after accessing our legal advice service.
  • 1500 actions were taken in support of our No Pride In Detention campaign, with supporters distributing campaign flyers, writing to their local papers, inviting their MPs to campaign events and quizzing their general election candidates on LGTBQI+ detention.
