For too long LGBTQI+ people have been put at risk in UK immigration detention. In detention centres they are bullied, harassed and abused just for being who they are.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. People going through our asylum and immigration system can be supported in our communities. For LGBTQI+ people this means a chance to live openly and with dignity.
With a change in government we need to make sure new MPs know about the dangers of immigration detention and the alternatives that exist.
It’s time for the new government to recognise the harm that’s being done and end LGBTQI+ detention.
