How do Legal Aid cuts impact LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum?

This article by Edward J. Alessi with support from Rainbow Migration finds that whilst cuts to legal aid affect everyone seeking asylum, LGBTQ+ people are more likely to lose out as solicitors ‘cherry pick’ cases: “solicitors are left struggling to meet the demand for legal aid services amid backlog and low remuneration and must make decisions about whether to forego complex, resource-intensive cases, such as those involving LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum, in order to remain financially viable.” The situation increases the risk of people living in poverty, unsafe accommodation and/or limbo.
